3D Printing Research & Experiences Lab

3D Printing Research & Experiences Lab

Explore new possibilities in the 3D Printing Research & Experiences Lab at Mizzou Engineering. 3D printing is becoming a key technology in engineering, as industries are adapting it to produce lightweight, energy-efficient materials, manufacture parts for transportation and aerospace industries and develop advanced prosthetics and other biomedical solutions.

Student Opportunities

All Mizzou Engineering students can elect to take Introduction to Rapid Prototyping. Learn fundamental rapid prototyping and related concepts, and design and produce models using the technology.

Opportunities to learn outside of the classroom are available through the Mizzou Engineering 3D Printing Club, which develops product solutions from inception to implementation and works to solve problems. Learn more.

Interested in working in the lab as part of a class or special project? Contact Steven Devlin, Associate Dean of Economic Development and Industrial Engagement and Director for Teaching and Service for the lab.

Research Opportunities

Industries and governmental agencies are adopting 3D printing as an innovative way to manufacture lightweight, inexpensive parts. The technology is becoming commonplace in the automobile and aerospace industries, among energy producers and in the construction business.

Faculty members and researchers across campus are invited to submit proposals to collaborate on research projects involving new ways to apply 3D printing. This is a great way to secure new funding as agencies are interested in further exploring possible uses for these materials and products.

Specific areas of interest include:

  • Biomedical, medical, nursing applications
  • Smart materials for 3D printing/3D printing of active composites
  • Multi-material 3D printing
  • Machine learning for additive manufacturing
  • Concrete 3D printing

Want to learn more about how your research could benefit from 3D printing technology? Contact Oliver Giraldo-Londoño, O’Neill Faculty Scholar in Engineering and Director of Research.

Industry Opportunities

The 3D Printing Research & Experiences Lab provides industries and businesses in Missouri with entrepreneurial services and support.

We offer training and demonstrations to industry professionals with limited technical resources and can assist with prototype ideas for entities looking to commercialize new products.
