Mizzou Engineering students take honors at Show Me Research Week

Six engineering students took honors at Show Me Research Week on campus last week.

Show Me Research Week, a collaboration between the Office of Undergraduate Research and the Bond Life Sciences Center, included poster presentations, guest lectures and special activities. More than 55 engineering students presented.

Daniel Ferretti, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, won the Abstract Award in the Engineering Sciences category. Under the mentorship of Associate Professor Roger Fales, he presented research analyzing an automated control system that regulates blood oxygen saturation in premature infants. His abstract will be published in Artifacts, an online journal published by the Campus Writing Program.

Winners of the Forum Presentation Awards in Engineering Sciences were:

Undergraduate

  • 1st Place: James Keating, mechanical engineering under the mentorship of Associate Professor Matt Maschmann
  • 2nd Place: Chloe Groner, civil and environmental engineering, under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Maryam Salehi
  • 3rd Place: Kate Barnard, civil and environmental engineering, under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Maryam Salehi

Graduate

  • 1st Place: Skyler Kramer, electrical engineering and computer science, under the mentorship of Curators’ Distinguished Professor Dong Xu
  • 3rd Place: Alicia Esquivel Morel, electrical engineering and computer science, under the mentorship of Gilliom Professor of Cyber Security Prasad Calyam

Show Me Research Week also recognized graduate students and faculty who were nominated for Undergraduate Mentor of the Year. Those from Mizzou Engineering nominated for the award were:

  • Arghavan Beheshtimaal, a PhD student in civil and environmental engineering,
  • Ekincan Ufuktepe, assistant teaching professor in electrical engineering and computer science and
  • Fang Wang, associate teaching professor in engineering and information technology.
