Paul Chan, associate professor emeritus of chemical engineering, was named interim chair of the Chemical Engineering Department by Dean Elizabeth Loboa. The appointment became effective Jan. 1.
In the spring of 2015 Associate Professor Paul Chan announced his retirement after 35 years on the MU chemical engineering faculty. It wasn’t an easy decision for him. He enjoys what he does, especially his work as the department’s undergraduate advisor as well as his decade-long position as chair of the College of Engineering’s scholarship committee.
Paul Chan, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in the Chemical Engineering Department, went to start a scholarship of his own, only to find out some of his former students had started one as a surprise in his name.
Emily Cheng, a chemical engineering major, earned a Goldwater Scholarship Award in March, and with it, up to $7,500 to cover tuition, fees, books and room and board.
